The rich history of Masjid Bilal spans nearly 70 years. Nestled just miles south of downtown
Los Angeles, it hosts the city’s oldest identifiable Muslim community. Their evolution is an
inspirational story that captures the true essence of Islam’s modern-day growth in America.
Originally formed in the 1950s, following the message of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad,
the community’s journey has been an arduous path of struggle, sacrifice, and success that
uniquely defines the heritage of American Muslims.
On December 1, 2023, the Masjid Bilal community
hosted inaugural opening of a their new masjid,
built from the ground, in Los Angeles. This colossal
event culminated their 40-year effort to rebuild a
new house of worship, on the property they have
owned over 50 years.
