Muslims Group Calls for Hate Crime Probe of Attack on Muslim, Hispanic Men by Trump Supporter |

(KANSAS CITY, KS, 3/15/16) – On Monday, March 14, the Kansas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Kansas) held news conference on the campus of Wichita State University asking state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate an allegedly bias-motivated attack on a Muslim and a Hispanic man by an assailant reportedly shouting “Trump, Trump, Trump.” The attack allegedly took place when the two men stopped for gas and refreshments early Saturday morning at the Kwik Shop near the Wichita State University campus. A Muslim student at Wichita State University reported that the alleged attacker punched, pushed and kicked the two men while shouting racial abuse such as “n**ger” and “brown trash.” The attacker, a white man in his 20s or 30s, also reportedly shouted his support for leading GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump. According to the Muslim student, the attacker shouted “Trump will win,” “We will make America great again” along with “Trump, Trump, Trump.” CAIR, which is America's largest Muslim civil rights group, urged officials and Donald Trump to repudiate the alleged attack committed by one of his supporters. “We urge law enforcement authorities to treat this alleged assault as a hate crime and for local, state and federal elected officials and candidates to repudiate the apparent political and racial motive for the attack,” said CAIR-Kansas Board Chair Moussa Elbayoumy. “Donald Trump should himself repudiate this alleged hate crime, apparently committed by one of his supporters.” Last week, CAIR’s national office demanded that Donald Trump apologize for his latest Islamophobic claim that “Islam hates us.” |
